Kennel Cough Outbreak in Rutland Area

December 12th, 2011

This morning we were informed of a confirmed outbreak of Kennel Cough (AKA Bordatella) in this area. Please be aware and pay close attention to your dog and his/her behavior. The most noticeable symptom of Bordatella is the cough. It sounds like a hacking cough, as if something were stuck in the dog’s throat. Another symptom can be lethargic behavior.

Should you hear any coughing from your dog, you should contact your vet. Dog’s that have received the Bordatella vaccination are not immune to K-Cough, however the vaccination does virtually eliminate the possibility of progression into pneumonia. You should still be on the lookout for symptoms even if your dog has the K-Cough vaccine.

We appreciate your help in keeping 4 Paws Academy a safe, healthy, and clean environment for your dogs. Again, if you see any symptoms, take your dog to your vet and please allow them two weeks recovery time they need before attending any 4 Pawsm programs.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Gracie Quesnel-Roberts

December 5th, 2011

Gracie is a five month old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. Thanks to the time, work, and effort her owners have contributed to her training, she is well ahead of the class!

Due to her owners’ hard work and her regular attendance in 4 Paws intensive training day school program, Gracie has a solid understanding of our foundation program positions and is very close to being off all lures and on verbal commands only. She has learned the vocabulary of marker training and is a star pupil!

Gracie’s owners also have a second puppy, a male from Gracie’s litter. If you have ever raised a puppy, you know the challenges and frustrations. Imagine raising TWO at the same time! Gracie’s owners, Sue Quesnel and Jim Roberts, deserve an enormous amount of credit for being able to commit to their dogs’ training, dedicate time, stay consistent through frustration, and keep their sanity all while raising two puppies.

The 4 Paws crew would like you to know that your hard work is paying off! Congratulations Gracie for being 4 Paws Academy’s Dog of the Month for December 2011 from the 4 Paws Crew and community!
