Kenosha is a 9 month old border collie trapped in a Bernese Mountain Dog’s body. She is very excited to learn, has great food drive, and a ton of energy. She learns fast but it is slightly hard to get her to stabilize in the positions. And in the beginning it was very hard to get her to focus on them.
Without the help of Day School her owners (Polly and Jason) have made great progress with her. By first establishing a clear pack structure and then focusing on engagement (the ability to ignore distractions and pay attention to the owner) they found a lot of their issues disappearing, it also made teaching behaviors easer. They did all the work they could between classes even though life did get in the way sometimes. They did not try to go ahead so when they taught the new stuff they could do it correctly from the start.
At the end of her first round Kenosha was farther along than any dog I have had in classes in the last few years. Now that she is in the second round the work is really paying off. It is nice to see such a great bond between owner and dog.
